Xbox’s chief marketing officer is leaving the company to join video game platform Roblox as chief marketing officer, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters on Monday.
Gerrit West oversaw the creation and delivery of numerous marketing campaigns, including those for games and consoles, and helped expand products such as Xbox’s subscription service, Game Pass, says Microsoft’s CEO of Xbox’s video game business, Phil Spencer.
West spent eight years at Xbox as part of the marketing and product department before moving to Netflix to lead several marketing teams. The executive returned to Microsoft in 2019 as Xbox Marketing Director.
West’s departure comes amid a broader restructuring of Xbox’s marketing department, where a core games marketing team will be formed and several marketing teams will be moved.
“Going forward, the game’s leadership team and I decided to place marketing closer to the companies they support,” Spencer said in the memo.
Microsoft also shut down several studios in May, including Arkane Austin and Consolidated Teams, in a cost-cutting move.
