On Monday, May 20, the “Brazil-United Kingdom Partnership in Science Celebration” took place. The meeting was organized by the British government and brought together a number of officials and experts in science and innovation at the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro. In this event Prof. Dr. Camila Nobre, from the Itapeguru-Mirim Campus of Maranhão (Umema) State University.

Dr. from Manchester Metropolitan University. Professor Camila was invited because of her workshop “The Role of Fungi in the Amazonian Bioeconomy”, co-authored with Francis Brearley, and which will take place between 27 and 30 May. The event will bring together 17 recent Brazilian and 13 UK doctors and 4 mentors to explore the fundamental role of fungi in the Amazon bioeconomy.

During the celebration, panels were held presenting success stories of joint scientific projects between Brazil and the United Kingdom, and discussions on training Brazilian human subjects in British institutions. United Kingdom Ambassador to Brazil Stephanie Al-Khaq attended the ceremony and highlighted the importance of collaboration between the two countries in advancing scientific projects with global impact.

The closing ceremony was chaired by Adam Jackson, Director of Research and Innovation, UK Ministry of Science, Innovation and Technology. In his speech, Jackson highlighted not only the success of already established partnerships, but also a series of announcements aimed at all branches of science.

After the ceremonies, the British Council’s head of cultural engagement, Professor Camilla Nobrey, spoke to researchers present, including those who had received funding to run the workshops.
