Interestingly, Rostov, who was only playing on the schedule, also opened the scoring with the Brazilian: striker Ronaldo, a former Bahia player, at the start of the second half. But Mantuan, with a penalty kick, equalized the score in the 20th minute of the final stage, while Artur, in the 40th minute and counting on the goalkeeper’s cooperation, turned the score in favor of Zenit. In addition to Mantuan and Artur, six other Brazilians were involved in Zenit’s win: defender Nino and midfielder Wendel, both formerly of Fluminense, were starters, as was Claudinho, a former Bragantino player. Striker Pedriño, a former Corinthians player, and defender Rodrigo, a former Atletico MG player, entered the second half (as did Artur, who came off the bench to decide the match). The team’s captain, left back Douglas Santos, did not play due to his injury, but he participated in the celebration and raised the championship cup.
After 30 rounds, Zenit scored 57 points in the 2023-24 Russian Championship, one point ahead of runner-up Krasnodar. Now, the Saint Petersburg club has 11 national titles in its history and is the country’s oldest champion, with one more cup than Spartak Moscow.
