US support for flood-affected communities in RS exceeds R$1 million

The United States has surpassed the country’s R$ 1 million allocation of an additional R$ 260,000 to ADRA to help buy and distribute bedding and water to communities affected by flooding in the Rio Grande do Sul, and to invest in sanitation and health services.

The exchange will be facilitated by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). With the new contribution, the US government’s total support for the region exceeds R$1 million. The US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which is responsible for managing disasters arising from weather and geological events, and the US Geological Survey (USGS), which is responsible for studying life-threatening natural hazards, shared knowledge and best practices with local authorities.
