As the disease progresses, language, spatial orientation, logical thinking, and regulation of emotions, among other mental functions, are affected. In the most advanced stage, there are motor disabilities. The person has difficulty standing, walking, swallowing, controlling the sphincter, etc., and becomes completely dependent.
Alzheimer’s disease itself does not kill, but its complications can. It can take 10 to 15 years from the first memory damage to the advanced stage.
How to prevent Alzheimer’s disease?
Eat healthy food: Prioritize consumption of vegetables, fruits, seeds, and fish, as well as limit sugar, refined carbohydrates, and saturated and trans fats. Studies suggest that the Mediterranean diet may be beneficial for preventing dementia. Certain nutrients, such as omega-3, vitamin E and resveratrol (found in grapes), have been associated with a reduced risk, but there is no evidence that taking supplements containing these substances reduces the likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
Doing physical activities: In addition to maintaining overall health, exercise also plays an important role in cognitive function.
