The number of arrests for pro-Palestinian protests at US universities has exceeded 2,300.
In New York, then Protesters were forcibly removed from Columbia University, security has been strengthened. During the dispersal, police reported that a sergeant accidentally fired a shot into the building, but no one was injured.
On the Portland State University campus, an occupied library was evacuated Monday.
At the University of Los Angeles, after the tents were removed, the cleanup took place throughout the day.
In Washington, D.C., the rectory and city hall decided not to force the evacuation of students camped out in front of faculty buildings. They call for a cease-fire in Gaza and an end to any financial ties between the university and Israeli institutions.
Following police actions and news of President Joe Biden’s reinstatement order, encampments at American universities began to subside, but the wave of protests is now spreading elsewhere around the world.
Students took to the streets in Paris. Camps were set up at Newcastle University and Mexico City University in the United Kingdom.
Clashes erupt between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel supporters in Australia. Worryingly, because of the division of opinion, the confrontational scenes in American educational institutions will repeat themselves there.
