The “Science Goes to School” project begins with an audio-visual narrative workshop in a municipal school in Macapa

The second workshop of the project “Science Goes to School: Educational Practices for the Dissemination of Science and the Uptake of the Sustainable Development Goals”, linked to the “Embrapa & Escola” programme, was held on 27/3, in the municipality of Escola Lucía Nieves Dinor, (Brasil Novo neighborhood of Macapá). In the afternoon, fourth-year students created drawings and models to prepare the audio-visual narrative for the environmental music video that will serve as the soundtrack to the song “Olhos d'água,” by composer and singer Amapá ze Miguel. The artist is also a member of the project and participated in the workshop where the students were encouraged to analyze the song's lyrics and connect them to their perception of the local area, such as the uniqueness of living in an environment with rich biodiversity that needs to be preserved. . The project coordinator, researcher Fania Beatriz de Oliveira, acted as workshop facilitator, with support from Professor Selma Santiago. She emphasized that the workshop methodology is based on the educational communicative practice of collective production of audio-visual narratives and environmental videos, which the researcher has developed since 2008. This practice has been certified as an educational social technology by the Social Technology Award of the Banco do Brasil Foundation in 2021. The main distinguishing feature is The use of musical-literary discourse by Amazonian artists to encourage discussion of environmental issues in school communities, with the principle of communication for educational purposes. This action by Embrapa Amapá receives resources from the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC), through the “Science Goes to School” project. The goal is to develop procedures for the dissemination of agricultural and forestry sciences, and to stimulate the interest of primary and secondary school students in scientific knowledge, through access to information on research results developed by Embrapa and its partners. Environmental video production workshops are also scheduled to be held at the José do Patrocinho State School, located in the Fazendinha Environmental Protection Area, Macapa municipality; and at Escola Família Agrícola do Carvão, Municipality of Mazagao (AP) as well as a mini-course on educational communication practices for teachers and students in Oyabuki (AP).
