App driver charges RS 100 to return forgotten cell phone: 'I was just blackmailed,' says victim

This time, a passenger forgot his cell phone and reported being blackmailed by the driver to get the device back. This case happened on Monday (first) with sports journalist Victor Gamaro, in Maceió, Alagoas.

“I was just blackmailed by a driver @vude99. Let’s tell this story and make famous the guy who was accused of returning my wife’s cell phone,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Jamaro also said in the post that he was on vacation with his wife in Alagoas and she ended up forgetting her cell phone in the car. After the incident, they contacted the driver, who did not make the situation any easier and even asked if the couple would agree to do a race “off” the app, to return the device.

However, the story does not end there. Initially, the victim offered money to cover the trip that the driver would have to make to collect the device. However, due to the delay, Gammaro decided to pay for the Uber flash. Although there was no charge, the driver demanded R$100 to return the cell phone.

In one of the publications, the journalist details the situation: “After evasive about his whereabouts, he confirms: He will not return the cell phone unless he moves or spends a single penny, after paying. I say I will not send the full amount unless the device arrives. “The biker got there and couldn’t remove the device,” he said of the conversation with the driver.

Soon after, he said he paid the Rs 30 he requested, so that he could deliver the device to the Uber biker.

“I paid 30 Brazilian dollars and asked him to deliver the device to the Uber biker. I will pay the rest upon delivery. He is resisting and asking for money again to return what is mine. Is this the profile of drivers that @voude99 wants to include in his ranks?”

99 said in a statement that it regrets the user experience. According to the platform, the driver’s file was blocked immediately after the complaint was registered, in addition to a team being mobilized “for reception and instructions regarding recording the police report.”

The company also added that in its community guide, it recommends “agreeing on a fair amount to compensate for travel expenses to return the lost item” between passengers and the partner driver. However, the platform says that this payment is not mandatory.
