AI used to imitate Biden's voice in fake calls

The calls included a message to the politician and Democratic voters in New Hampshire asking them not to vote in the party's primary elections this Tuesday (23).

Fears of the political use of AI

According to the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office, the records say, “Your vote makes a difference in November, not this Tuesday.” They are said to have been manipulated to appear as if they were sent by a Democratic committee staffer.

And according to US officials, “the messages appear to be an illegal attempt to disrupt the presidential election in New Hampshire”.

This is the latest case involving the use of AI for political purposes. Experts warn that technology can increase misinformation, especially during US election seasons.

Last year, after Biden announced his candidacy for re-election, the Republican National Committee used artificial intelligence to create a video with images of apocalyptic scenes. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has posted false photos of former President Donald Trump, who ran against him in the Republican race.

US lawmakers are racing against time to regulate political content produced by AI, which has already been used to mislead voters in close foreign elections. According to analysts, the situation is likely to worsen with elections approaching and North American political divisions.

  • It is predicted that there will be an election contest between Biden and Trump again.
  • The former president has already won Iowa's Republican primary by a landslide.
