The United States confirms the shooting at a school in Iowa
Several people were injured in a shooting attack at a high school in Perry, Iowa, United States, on Thursday (4).
It is not known exactly how many people were injured, and the sheriff in charge of the case, Adam Infante, said only that there were “several victims.”
American television networks said the shooter was killed. His identity was not revealed. Two people were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other security agencies arrived at the scene. The US Attorney's Office has been notified.
The attack occurred on the first day of returning to school after the end-of-year holidays. The school is located in the city of Perry, which has a population of less than 8,000 people.
When the attack began, at 7:30 a.m., there were not many people in the building because classes had not yet started.
The presidential election begins in Iowa
On January 15, the Iowa capital will host the first vote among Republican Party electors to choose the party's presidential nominee – former President Donald Trump is the favorite.
Former Republican candidates such as Ron DeSantis, Trump's main rival in the party, were already in Des Moines on Thursday.
Pictures posted on social media showed dozens of police officers surrounding the school and helicopters flying over the building.
