The Grêmio group will be led by Airton Fagunes and has several names already trained in the main team. In addition to those already mentioned, left-back Jose Guilherme, defender Vieri and strikers Leanne and Gustavo Nunes, who the club calls Gustavo Gomez, trained with Renato Portaluppi in 2023.
Nunes, by the way, is trying to use Copinha as momentum to gain space in 2024. The striker lost his mother in 2021 and almost gave up on football. But he maintains his dream and claims he is “playing for her,” as GE exclusively showed.
Among the names on the list, Wesley was a starter for Gremio in the defeat to Sao Paulo, in Morumbi, and Jose made back-to-back appearances against Atletico and Sao Paulo. Araujo played on one occasion, as did Paraguayan Freddy and striker Lian.
Midfielder Gevinho recently suffered a broken jaw and required surgery. Tricolor kept the youngster among those registered, but the trend is for him not to be able to play in the competition. Gremio will make their debut on January 3 and will be in Group D with Figueirense, Inter di Bebedoro and Serra Branca.
