Half a human corpse was found in a tiger cage in a Pakistani zoo, the Daily Mail reported. The investigation began after the team found a shoe in the animal’s mouth, which raised concern. This case occurred in the Sherbagh Zoo in Bahawalpur, eastern Punjab province.
There were also three other animals in the cage. “When they cleaned the zoo and its dens, they found (the animal) carrying a shoe in its mouth,” Zaheer Anwar, a government official in Bahawalpur, told local media.
He added, “The team suspected him and then found a body inside the den.” According to him, the person in question may be suffering from a mental disorder. “The den is safe. There are stairs behind the room, he might have jumped from there. (The) employees are all accounted for,” he said.
A member of the rescue team stated that the victims’ legs were severely injured. “We still don’t know who he is and how he got there. It is being investigated. The body appears to be several hours old,” he explained.
The victim’s body is being examined by forensic experts. The zoo is managed by the Punjab Wildlife Department, and visitors to enter must pay 50 rupees, less than R2.50. The Ministry did not comment on the incident.
According to the Daily Mail, zoos in Pakistan are often accused of not treating animals well.
