A video circulating on social media shows a BBC news presenter – who apparently did not know it was already being broadcast – showing the middle finger at the start of the news programme.
Maryam Moshiri can be seen making the obscene gesture after the show’s musical countdown. One of the station’s lead anchors, as soon as she realizes she’s on live air, quickly removes her hand before she begins reporting the daily news headlines.
After the incident went viral, she stated that she was joking with her friends at work and did not know that she was actually alive.

“Hello everyone, yesterday, just before the start of the hour [do telejornal]I was joking around a bit with the team at the show. I was pretending to count down while the manager counted down from 10 to 0… including his fingers to show the number. So, from 10 fingers up to one,” she wrote on X [antigo Twitter].
The presenter then added: “When we got to 1, I flipped the bird as a joke and didn’t realize it was going to be caught on camera. It was a special team prank and I’m sorry it got broadcast! I didn’t do it.” Meant for it to happen.” And I’m sorry if I offended or upset anyone. I wasn’t ‘pointing the finger’ at viewers or even one person, really. It was a sick joke aimed at a small number of friends.”
Hey everyone, yesterday before the end of the hour I was having a little joke with the team at the show.
I was going to count down and the manager was counting down from 10-0… including the fingers to show the number. So from 10 fingers raised to one.
when…
