“Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé” topped the US box office this weekend. The production was written, directed and produced by Beyoncé, depicting her tour to promote her Grammy-winning album of the same name. The material was screened in 2,539 theaters in the United States and Canada. It also grossed US$6.4 million in 2,621 theaters in 94 international territories.
That’s a good debut for a concert, but it doesn’t come close to the $92.8 million that Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour recently grossed in its opening weekend. Both chose distributor AMC Theaters over a traditional studio. Both Beyonce and Taylor Swift are estimated to receive 50% of the box office revenue.
