Without warning or dialogue, BNP Paribas imposes changes to employee health plans

Without any advance notice or consultation to employees, or even to the union, BNP Paribas made changes to its worker health plan, imposing co-payments for a portion of exams, consultations and emergency rooms. Until then, no fees were charged to bank employees for this plan.

In light of complaints made by BNP Paribas workers, the union met with bank representatives to question the change and demand that it not be implemented immediately, without first consulting employees. However, the bank reported that the decision had already been made and claimed that the new model adopted was sustainable for the plan and was still beneficial to workers.

The bank also informed that employees who are undergoing treatment and need examinations and consultations, for which fees will eventually be charged under the new model, will receive special attention from the institution, so that the fees do not significantly affect their monthly wages.

“We reject these changes that affect a sensitive issue for workers, which is medical insurance. “We will monitor developments, prepare the necessary reports and demand due accountability for the impacts,” said ITU Secretary-General Lucimara Malachias.
