The award ceremony for the selected school units was held during the 9th Municipal Science, Technology and Innovation Fair of Campos dos Goytacazes (Femucti) on Tuesday (21), at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology Fluminense (IFF). The evaluation committee selected 6 projects from the primary school in the early years, 6 projects from the primary school in the final years, and 3 projects from the final years for honorable mention.
The winners received prizes for their schools, medals, certificates and gifts for students and teachers from the municipal Department of Education, Science and Technology (Seduct). Moreover, six of these units will participate in the Science, Technology and Innovation Fair of the State of Rio de Janeiro (XVII Fecti), which will be held on Saturday (25) and Sunday (26) in Rio de Janeiro. This is the largest science fair in the state and includes projects from different sectors and fields.
According to event coordinator and Science Coordinator of the Municipal Education Network, Carla Salles, of the 6 projects, 4 are the result of Seduct’s Mais Ciência na Escola programme, which offers scholarships aimed at promoting research, science and technology. The six units are: Eloy Ornelas, in Vila Nova; Nossa Senhora Aparecida, in Santo Eduardo; Dr. Luiz Sobral, Jardim Carioca (with two projects); Claudia Almeida Pinto de Oliveira, in Farol; and Binta Pereira Government School.
“We congratulate the schools and all education workers involved in the projects. It is refreshing to see that our education can be built with the support of students and the enthusiasm of our teachers. Education is an investment that makes a better country possible.” Carla said.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Susana da Hora, was represented by Secretary Marcelo Ferris and praised the efforts of the teachers and students. She noted that the ninth fair was developed by the Municipal Department of Education, Science and Technology during the 10th National Science and Technology Week, in October this year in Jardim São Benedito, when the fourth primary school science fair was also held.
“Under the fantastic leadership of Carla Sallis, the More Science in School program is now in its third edition. And now it is time to culminate this intense year of research conducted by our junior researchers, who came today to receive their awards and recognition for the excellent work they have done. Congratulations to you all,” she said. Susanna: “We are very proud and sure that you will have a bright future.”
In total, 91 institutions participated in the tenth national week, including 61 school units. The teams work based on the theme “Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development”.
