The United States and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) reportedly offered Egypt military and economic cooperation in exchange for opening the Rafah crossing for foreign nationals to leave the Gaza Strip.

The information appears in a cable sent by the Brazilian Embassy in Israel to Brazilian authorities obtained by GloboNews through the Access to Information Act (LAI).

On October 16, a cable cited talks with the Egyptian government to open the border between the United States and the United Arab Emirates.

“According to local sources and interlocutors at the post, the United States and the United Arab Emirates continue to pressure President al-Sisi to open the Rafah crossing and accept the entry of Gaza residents with foreign citizenship into Egyptian territory. In return, they will provide funds, donations and cooperation in the economic and military sectors,” the cable said. .

The nearly 300-page document contains statements made by Ambassador Frederico Salomo Duque Estrada Mayor and diplomat Fabio Moreira Farias between October 7 and November 10.

On November 8, the Brazilian embassy in Israel said in a cable that it had contacted “about three dozen” Brazilians living in Gaza by phone or WhatsApp group.

The group of Brazilians, with 32 people, left the Gaza Strip more than a month after the telegram was sent.

On November 12, 22 Brazilians, 7 Palestinians with National Migration Registry (RNM, temporary or permanent residency document for foreigners in Brazil) and 3 Palestinian close family members crossed the Rafah crossing linking the Gaza Strip with Egypt.

In total, seven groups of foreigners from different nationalities living in the Gaza Strip crossed the border. The United States is the country with 1,267 citizens rescued from the conflict zone.

As of the last update of this report, there is no UAE citizen on the list of foreigners who have left Gaza.

The cable, which named approximately 30 Brazilians for the first time, indicated that they told the embassy that “the Israeli military spread threatening messages on social networks, warning residents to leave their homes immediately and seek refuge.”
