FAP’s Embraer KC-390 makes flights to search for new helicopters in the USA

The Embraer KC-390 military cargo aircraft continues to expand its mission range, and is now seeking new helicopters in the USA.

Disclosure – Embraer

There have already been two flights carried out by a KC-390 aircraft of the Portuguese Air Force, FAP, between Dothan Regional Airport in the US state of Alabama, and Maneuver Airport No. 1 in Maceda, near Porto, in Portugal.

On each flight, a Sikorsky UH-60A Black Hawk helicopter was on board, based on an order placed last year for 6 units, with the aim of replacing the Russian-made Kamov Ka-32, which was already in 2019 without maintenance support from the manufacture company. Leaving a few operational units.

The KC-390, manufactured in Brazil, is capable of carrying a Black Hawk or Seahawk (the naval version of the Black Hawk), as long as the rotor blades are removed or retracted (in the case of the naval version).

The FAF already moved its Black Hawks with the KC-390 last year.
