Rebecca Andrade arrives in Santiago to make her Pan American Games debut

The official opening of the Pan American Village Santiago 2023 took place on Monday (16). On the first day, the heart of the Games was filled with Brazilians from various disciplines. Athletes from diving, artistic gymnastics, baseball, badminton, 3×3 basketball, boxing, BMX cycling, MTB cycling, climbing, weightlifting, pentathlon, rowing, skiing, taekwondo and sports shooting arrive throughout the day on Monday to leave Villa each time with more green and yellow. Rowers and equestrians also arrive in Chile for the Pan American Games and head to the sub-centres of San Pedro de La Paz and Quilota.

In total, about 150 Brazilian athletes will be in Chile until the end of Monday night. Among them is Olympic and world artistic gymnastics champion Rebecca Andrade, one of the most prominent figures in the Brazilian delegation and the All-American Games.

“This is my first article and I am very excited and happy to be here. We have more experienced girls who have already explained to me what the energy of this competition is like and the other newcomers. I hope it will be an excellent competition for us,” Rebecca said.

The Brazilian artistic gymnastics team had just one week of rest and training after their historic World Cup run in Antwerp, where they won six medals in total, as well as claiming an unprecedented team medal among women, securing their Olympic berth. In the men’s category, Brazil secured two places for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The day after returning from Antwerp, the teams were already at COB CT focusing on preparing for the tournament, such is the team’s barrier-breaking routine every time they compete in a major competition.

“Brazilian gymnastics has become a reference, not only in our country, but all over the world. Brazil can show how much we have grown and how much we can grow. We have the full support of our multi-disciplinary team, the COB, the federation and the clubs that make us very proud,” said Rebecca, who She did not want to set a medal goal for Santiago: “The world result was expected for generations and we managed to achieve it with a lot of work.” “The result is a result. “We are happy and healthy because we are having an excellent competition, just like we did at the World Championships,” the Olympic medalist added.
