São Carlos will hold the first Science, Technology and Innovation Conference

On the 16th, the program begins with a lecture by Professor Dr. Dr. José Galizia Tondisi, Secretary of the Municipality of Science, Technology and Innovation of São Carlos in Itirapeña, from 3 pm, under the theme “Water Resources, Sustainability and Tourism in the Region”, at the Broa Dam.

In the afternoon, lectures begin. From 2pm onwards, Dr. Paulo Estevao Cruvenil, from Embrapa Instrumentação, will talk about “Science and Technology (S&T) for Sustainable Social Progress”. At 3:00 pm, Professor Dr. Glaucius Oliva from IFSC-USP will give a lecture on the topic “The Importance of Applied Basic Sciences for the Future of Cities.” Closing the program, starting at 5 p.m., is consultant Robertinho Mori, “permanent display of project technologies and products manufactured in São Carlos”.
The 2023 Science, Technology and Innovation Award will be presented on Thursday (19/10), at 7pm, at the São Carlos City Hall.

The program of the first Science, Technology and Innovation Conference will include presentations by artistic musical groups, choirs, performances, exhibitions and lectures discussing topics such as water resources, sustainability, tourism in the region, national and global food security and the role of Brazil. The role of science in the fight against hunger, promoting diversity in scientific professions, an initiative to increase the presence of black and colored people, a roundtable on science for social and economic development in Brazil, an overview of the environmental impact of aviation, environmental and legal soil protection, and the importance of scientific education for society, in addition to Launch of the book “Science, Technology, Innovation and the Future of São Carlos”, among other topics for discussion in public and private circles.

“The purpose of the conference is to strengthen the role of the municipality of São Carlos as a capital of technology and a capital of knowledge production. This is the first action so that we can move from knowledge to innovation and production, thus increasing the prosperity of the city,” says José Galizia Tondisi, municipal secretary for science, technology and innovation.
