Last Thursday (21), the National Day of Struggle for Persons with Disabilities was celebrated, with the aim of raising awareness and achieving greater integration into society.

One of these patients is a 45-year-old man who fulfilled his dream: to walk and feel the ground with his feet. See how this process went in the video above.

The Haj method was invented by Dr. Sidney Haj and consists of treating chest deformities using orthopedic devices without surgery. His son, Davey Hagg, adapted the technique along with a method used in newborns to treat congenital clubfoot in adults, called the Ponseti method.

The method consists of using serial plaster casts and performing simple surgical procedures. Hey amazing Traffic agent Nelson accompanied Lira before and after surgery, from Petrolina (PE).

“It was difficult and a bit painful,” Lyra said after the first week of the cast. “The nerves are pulsing, and at night is the time when it hurts the most.”

After 15 cast changes, he underwent surgery to correct his foot, which had a good result in correcting the deformity.

“Simple things, like stepping on the ground, or stepping on the sand, or walking. I feel the sand and dirt on my feet,” Nelson said when asked how he imagines himself after these procedures.

In August of this year, the dream finally became a reality.

He says emotionally: “A cold feeling on my feet that I have never felt before, from standing on the ground like this. Forty-five years I have been waiting for this.”
