Wang Yi, Chinese President Xi Jinping’s representative for international negotiations, is visiting Moscow for several days to hold meetings with Russian officials on security and foreign policy.

He arrived in Moscow after meeting in Malta with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, in talks that the White House considered “sincere” and “constructive.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on Telegram, “A convergence has been observed in the positions of both parties regarding American actions in the international arena, including those of an anti-Russian and anti-China nature.”

The United States and its allies have said they are concerned about the growing alliance between China and Russia, which has strengthened after Moscow sent thousands of troops to Ukraine in 2022 in what Washington and Kiev say is an unprovoked act of aggression.

“The negotiations were conducted in a reliable and constructive manner, which is inherent in the Russian-Chinese dialogue,” the ministry said.

The ministry added that the two men spoke “in detail” about Ukraine, “pointing out the futility of attempts to resolve the crisis without taking into account interests, especially without Russia’s participation.”
