Caio Viana: The use of blockchain can bring efficiency to public service and reduce bureaucracy

The House Science, Technology and Innovation Committee will hold a public hearing next Wednesday (20) to discuss the use of blockchain in public administration.

Blockchain technology is a database mechanism that allows the transparent sharing of information across a company or organization’s network. A blockchain database stores data in blocks linked together in a chain. The data is considered temporally consistent because the chain cannot be deleted or modified without network consensus.

The requester for the hearing is MP Caio Viana (PSD-RJ). According to him, the adoption of blockchain technology in public administration can improve the transparency of operations, allowing greater visibility and scrutiny of government activities. Furthermore, the immutability of blockchain records can contribute to preventing fraud and corruption, and enhancing the integrity of public systems and institutions.

He added: “The use of blockchains can also bring efficiency to public services, reduce bureaucracy, simplify processes and facilitate interoperability between various government agencies and entities. The technology can enable the automation of tasks, eliminating unnecessary intermediaries, and reducing operating costs.”

The hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in plenary session 13.
