The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, said that within 90 days the government and the banks will present a proposal to solve the high interest rates on credit. The minister said in a press conference on Monday (8/14) that the purchases by installments in many installments without interest will be discussed later.

“Our focus is on revolving (credit). I have a commitment from the banks that this negotiating table has a deadline for completion,” Haddad said, referring to the working group set up between finance, the central bank and representatives of financial institutions, to curb the turnover rate, which in June reached 437.3%. annually. The negotiations also include a dialogue with Congress on this subject, as there is already, in the chamber, a bill dealing with the subject. And the working group, according to Haddad, is to hold talks with project author Elmar Nascimento (União-BA) and with rapporteur, deputy Alencar Santana (PT-SP).

“The revolving credit card greatly affects people’s lives and today interest-free installments account for 70% of purchases made in stores. Therefore, we must be very careful not to affect purchases in trade, and not to create a problem to solve the first problem,” Haddad said. , upon informing him that the installment will be dealt with without interest after a discussion about the circle.

The issue of annuities was brought up last Thursday (8/10), when the President of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, speaking on the topic in a session of the Senate, stated that in addition to the revolving repayment, it will be necessary to settle the repayment of the annuities often without interest. , which increases the risks of banks.
