SÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) – The actors of the film ‘Oppenheimer’, which opens on the 20th, have abandoned the premiere of Christopher Nolan’s film in favor of the Hollywood actors’ strike that began this Thursday (13) after the screen actors. The guild union, SAG-AFTRA, failed to reach an agreement with the studios.
According to Deadline Portal, it was Nolan who broke the news to the crowd that accompanied the premiere.
“I have to acknowledge the work of our incredible cast led by Cillian Murphy,” said the director. “The list is huge – Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Buck, Kenneth Branagh, Rami Malek and others.
“Unfortunately, they are going to write their posters for what we believe is the upcoming SAG strike, one of my unions, the Writers Guild, is fighting for fair wages for the working members of their union.”
Actor Matt Damon had already told the Variety portal in a statement given on the red carpet that the cast had talked about the approach they would take if a strike was called. “If they order, we go home,” he commented.
Emily Blunt and Kenneth Branagh also voiced their support for the strike at the entrance to the event.
About 160,000 actors unionized in the Screen Actors Guild, SAG-AFTRA, have announced a strike. The union unanimously approved the strike.
They have now joined the writers’ strike that has been going on since early May. Writers for film and television have demands similar to those of actors, especially regarding royalties from streaming.
