José Luiz Alquéres launched “A Chronicle of Science in the West” on Friday at Casa de Petropolis
The event will start at 5 pm
Next Friday (23.06) the writer and scientist José Luiz Alkeres will launch the book “History of Science in the West”, at five o’clock in the evening, at the Casa de Petropolis Institute of Culture. The event will be attended by the author and guests at a table discussion of the work. In the book, the author stresses the urgent need to deal with the sciences and humanities in an integrated manner, with the aim of achieving the sustainability of planet Earth in just one generation. Free admission.
Alquéres, an engineer with a solid scientific background and a lover of literature, proposes in this book a dialogue between science and the arts throughout history, with the aim of formulating a viable project for the survival of society. In the midst of the climate crisis, the author searches the world’s cultural heritage for solutions to global challenges, emphasizing the importance of scientists and artists caring for the future.
“While writing the book, when I came across scientific paradigms that had been surpassed since Thomas Kuhn, I was polluted by the spirit of nature. Studying the foundations of the ecological mind, I understood that man needs to change his mentality, learn to live on Earth. There were 500 generations that destroyed the planet and now we have one generation Just to fix what’s been done,” Alquier comments.
The book begins with a chronological approach to civilizations, but gradually dives into the fascinating world of science, with didactic language that becomes more complex as time goes on.
“I am delighted to receive an intellectual of the quality of José Luiz Alqueres, who will guide us on a journey through the history of science in the West,” assures Luiz Aquila, Director of Art and Culture at Casa de Petropolis.
“A Chronicle of Science in the West” will be launched on Av. Ipiranga 716 – city center. The space has a rotating parking lot. The event is organized by Casa de Petropolis with the support of IHP – Instituto Histórico de Petropolis, Casa Stefan Zweig and SAMI – Sociedade Amigos do Museu Imperial.
