The government sets new rules for transport vehicles

“Taking care of the most vulnerable people, especially drivers of two-wheeled vehicles, is one of our main bets to achieve internationally agreed fatality reduction goals and ensure safer and more humane traffic,” said National Traffic Secretary, Adrialdo Cato.

In this way, it is defined as:

  • moped: a two- or three-wheeled vehicle with an engine of up to 50 cylinders, with a maximum speed of 50 km / h;
  • Bicycle: a human-powered vehicle, equipped with two wheels, not for the purposes of the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB), similar to a motorcycle, scooter, and motorbike; that it

Each vehicle will be rated based on parameters of engine power, maximum manufacturing speed, mandatory equipment, registration and registration, as well as the need or not to Eligible. When do the new government rules come into effect?

The decision is effective from July 1, 2023. For vehicles that entered circulation and did not obtain a brand/model/issuance code for registration and licensing at state transportation agencies, the period is until December 31, 2023 for their owners to settle them at the traffic departments.

Before it was approved by the Council, the proposal was sent to Contran’s Vehicles, Environment and Road Transport thematic room, and subsequently submitted to public consultation.
