In Brazil, it is possible to order the exchange for a free account through the application, website or service of several banks. However, recovering fees already paid is not an easy task. At least it wasn’t.

Here, banks are obligated to provide some basic services without charging a fee. If this option is not available to the customer when the account is opened, refunds are possible. However, chargeback requests are usually reviewed on a case-by-case basis, which adds to the difficulty.
On the Internet, a series of reports have begun to appear in recent days of successful customers ordering. Such is the case for a client who received a five-month fee refund: Ítalo Cardoso, a 29-year-old accountant, received R$129.50 in reverse due to bank charges.
He realized that his use of the account was part of the free package, since he only received his salary and transferred it to another bank via Pix, and submitted the application.
First contact with the bank was made on the 1st of June and the refund was received the same day through the request. According to him, the service was very prompt and efficient.
Bank fee reimbursement has gone viral with Nath Finance
In the case of Ítalo, the bank charged a fee of R$25.90 per month. At first, the customer stated that the bank would return the fees paid in the past two months, but he insisted and took back the amount paid for five months.
Ítalo contacted the bank after seeing a post by influencer Nath Finance, who taught how to request a reversal on Twitter.
Another similar case is that of university student Julia Richelli Costa Martins, 21 years old. She requested repayment from her mother, who has an account at Banco do Brasil. Júlia contacted the SAC of the bank on the third day and received the refund three days later.
She received R$87.60 in compensation, referring to six months of fees of R$14.60. Júlia described the application process as simple and quick.
Financial influencer Nath Finance shared instructions on Twitter on how to request a reversal of amounts already paid in checking account fees. Within a few days, the post had received nearly 70,000 likes and more than 10,000 shares.
Many of Nath’s followers reported that they were able to get refunds in tariffs. Some clients claimed to have received more than R$300 in compensation, such as a netizen who paid R$79.80 per month to a private account.
However, other customers have reported difficulties obtaining a refund. People on Twitter claimed that the bank is refusing to pay the fee, claiming that the free package was offered at the time the account was opened.
According to the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Verapan), banks are required to provide basic services to customers. This rule was put in place by the Central Bank itself and it provides for basic free services in demand and savings deposit accounts. The free basic package has been around since 2007, but many customers are unaware of this service.
Each customer must evaluate whether they deserve to join the free plan. If any service is used in addition to what is offered, a separate fee will be charged. If you want to exchange a paid package for basic services, the customer can do so for free by contacting the bank through the service channels.
