The central bank is ready to test real digital, its new digital currency, and has already selected the institutions that will participate in the development of the pilot project. The list includes 14 local and international banks and unions operating in the country.

Large financial institutions, such as Banco do Brasil, Bradesco and Itaú Unibanco, will conduct infrastructure and privacy tests. Other smaller companies, such as Nubank, BTG Pactual, and BV, are also included.

The selection also contains federations that include names such as Santander Brasil, XP, Banco Inter, and others.

How will the tests be?

In a statement, BC explained that the tests will focus on privacy features and programmability of digital reality. It will be conducted through the state of delivery against the payment of a federal government bond between clients of different financial institutions.

“This use case allows focusing on privacy tests, as it enhances the exchange of information between the various participants in the platform,” the central bank explained.

More than 100 institutions were willing to test the assets in 36 proposals that were sent to the municipality. Just last year, BC President Roberto Campos Neto predicted that the digital currency would be tested this year and launched later with the aim of competing in a digital global system.

According to Fabio Araujo, BC initiative coordinator, the exams will continue until March 2024.
