Who is the percussionist of Dionne Warwick from Brasília, who charmed fans at Metropoles Music | capital Cities

Born and raised in Brasília, Renato Brassa has been part of Dionne Warwick’s band for over 30 years.

Back in Brasilia last Tuesday (23/5), in concert Metropolis MusicDionne Warwick thrilled fans by singing her greatest classics, accompanied by a band full of talent – among them Brazilian musician Renato Brassa, who was enthusiastically introduced by the artist in the final minutes of the show.

Born in Brasília, the percussionist has studied at the Brasília School of Music since he was 8 years old. At the age of 23, he moved to the United States to obtain a master’s degree in music from the University of North Texas. In 1995, while in his last semester, he was invited to sing in Dion’s band, where he remains today.

“After completing my master’s degree, I moved to New York. I lived there for 10 years, working professionally as a musician, while traveling the world with Dion. They’ve been together since Almost 30 years old.

Living again in Brazil, now in Rio de Janeiro, the composer, producer and educator continues to collaborate with Dion and other artists. “We went two years without traveling and playing due to the pandemic. In June 2022 we were back on the road, touring 30 shows in Europe and the UK. It was great to be back on the road and on stage,” he celebrates.

The show is performed Metropolis Music, last Tuesday, was the third time he was able to sing with the artist “At Home”. “Playing with her on ‘BSB’ is always very exciting for me. Also for her, who played in Brasília in the early 1960s, when the city was, according to her, ‘just cement'”.

Full of delight, Dionne Warwick was applauded by the audience from Brasília the moment she took the stage Metropolis Music to perform the first song, Walk on By (1964). The hit-packed collection also included such songs as I Say a Little Prayer (1967), Alfie (1967), and That’s What Friends Are For (1985).

Dionne Warwick communicated with the audience by singing songs with excerpts in Portuguese, an homage to Brazilian popular music. The audience returned the emotion with loud applause.

Dion’s granddaughter, Cheyenne Elliott, has performed with her singing several international hits. In addition to the solo performance, the young woman shared the stage with Dion at the beginning of the show and in its final moments.
