It was Mateus França who scored Flamengo’s first goal in the victory over Bahia for the Brazilian Championship.
Flamengo defeated Bahia 3-2 last Saturday (13) in the sixth round of the Brazilian Championship. With this victory, Mais Querido moved up three places on the leaderboard and is now ninth with nine points. Matheus França, who scored Robro-Negro’s first goal at Arena Fonte Nova, took the opportunity as a starting point and won on points with Jorge Sampaoli.
In the match against Bahia, Sampaoli consolidated changes in the starting line-up of Flamengo. In midfield, the coach chose to give opportunities to Matheus França instead of Everton Ribeiro. Showing plenty of attacking presence and contributing to Mengo’s runs down the right flank, the calf was a key player in the Red-Black’s victory. Number 42 scored Mingo’s first goal at Arena Fonte Nova.
After a good first-half performance, Matheus França had to be substituted in the first half. At that time, the calf had a knee blow. The midfielder underwent evaluation and did not require further specific tests, and treatment has begun. Sampaoli is waiting for training on Monday (15th) to see if he can count on the athlete against Fluminense in the Copa do Brasil.
Until the decisive match, Sampaoli will have another training session to determine and select the Flamengo team. This Tuesday (16), Mais Querido will face Fluminense, in the first leg of the Round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil. The match will take place at 21:00 (Brasilia time) in the Maracanã.
