After this episode, Lisa took a break from her manicure. I thought it fixed the problem, I went back to gel nails in April. Not only did the problem come back, it left her skin so fragile that she couldn’t move her hands because of the pain.
And Lisa mentioned to the British press that in addition to the awkward position of hiding her hands, solving small daily tasks, such as washing her daughters’ hair or putting a seatbelt on them, became an impossible exercise. “I’m shaking with pain because the skin is peeling,” he says.
She also claims that the use of gloves does not help, as it causes the hands to sweat, which exacerbates the pain, as well as the use of scented products on site.
Currently, Lisa has received new medication prescriptions. Although she did not share medical suspicions about what is happening, the British woman believes that the case is related to some kind of allergy to gel nails.
According to the Daily Mail, the British Association of Dermatology has warned of such incidents, which may be related to poor training of manicurists who use homemade gel kits, as well as insufficient exposure to the light responsible for fixing the material.
This would cause the methacrylates, the chemicals in nail gel procedures, to seep into the skin, causing rashes, nail loss, and in severe cases, even breathing difficulties.
The entity also claims that patients who undergo it may suffer from allergic reactions to chemical products for the rest of their lives, and even make it impossible for essential surgeries, such as cataracts, joint replacements, and even dental treatments, since such procedures could expose them and other chemicals.
