Coach Paulo Tora realized the difficulties that Atletico faced in the defeat by Fluminense, 2-0, on Saturday, in the Maracanã, for the second round of the Brazilian Championship. Lima and Nino, one after the other, scored the goals for the Rio team.
Atletico loses to Fluminense in Brazil
At a press conference, the coach assessed the main problems of the Hurricane in the match and praised the opponent, led by coach Fernando Diniz.
– It must be said that Fluminense today, this football that is played there is unique. There is no team, I might be exaggerating if there is a team in the world that does the job. He is the work of a coach who has been there for almost 2 years, already working with a lot of potential etc. Tora said.
Regarding the match, Paulo Tora pointed out that Atletico could not settle down, especially in the first half. With the exclusion of some starters, such as Terranz, Ze Ivaldo and Kelvin, the Hurricane they dominated ended up facing the pressure of Fluminense, who opened the scoring in the 10th minute, with a kick from outside Lima. The Rio team still had another overturned by the VAR.
It wasn’t until just before the break that Atlético managed to attack, when Thiago Andrade fired it in. Overall, there were nine serves from Fluminense against one from Rubro-Negro, as well as cariocas’ 74% possession of the ball.
– We have set the strategy of the game, and then there is the issue of the opponent as well. They set a very strong pace to the game, especially in the beginning. And when we tried to play, we had the opponent block – he hung up.
We had difficulty moving when we had the ball. However, we must realize that the opponent was very strong and very tough in this matter. We didn’t succeed a bit because of our slower start, or because the opponent was in a good moment and took advantage of it. He added that this was a question of our strategy.
In the first half, Torra put Vitor Bueno and Romulo in place of Fernandinho and Thiago Andrade. Atlético managed to balance the measures more, staying a little more in attack, but got the second goal in the 21st minute with a Nino header.
– In the second half, with the adjustments I made and also with putting the opponent in a slightly lower position, we were able to catch up, and in some moments we were able to control the match, but that was not enough to get the best result, Al-Tura said.
Atlético is back on the field on Tuesday, when it faces Valencia’s youth, at Arena da Baixada, at 21:30, for the second leg of the third stage of the Copa do Brasil – Hurricanes lost the first match 1-0.
For Brasileirao, the next challenge will be against Atlético MG, on Saturday, at 21, in Mineirão, for the third round.
