When accessing the app, Android owners see the following message: “This version of WhatsApp is out of date since March 27, 2023. Click on Download and update to the latest version on the Google Play Store.”
On DownDetector, a platform that records complaints from people about websites and apps, the complaints started around 4:30 p.m.
a g 1 I reached out to WhatsApp, but the company said it would not comment.
Before officially launching new features, WhatsApp usually tests them with a limited group of users. This is done through the beta version of the app, which can be installed on both Android and iPhone.
WhatsApp Beta is the version that allows developers to identify bugs and make necessary adjustments to new features in the app. (see below how to install).
The idea of releasing news first to a smaller group of users is to make sure that any problems with this update don’t cause an inconvenience to the entire user base.
How to join the WhatsApp Beta on Android
- go to Play Store;
- Search “WhatsApp“;
- On the application page, find the section Join the Beta Program;
- click in “to take part” And confirming the selection a new window will be displayed.
It is possible that the area related to the beta version of the messenger is not available in the Play Store. If this happens, the store should display a warning that “The beta program for this app has reached the sharing limit,” which will prevent the beta from being installed.
At the time of publication, the beta version of WhatsApp on Android did not allow new participants.
How to join the WhatsApp Beta on iPhone
- In the App Store, search for “test flight”;
- click in “to get”;
- Then open TestFlight’s WhatsApp page;
- click in “to accept”;
- click in “fix” and confirm the selection.
The app also has a limited number of locations available for its iPhone beta. So the TestFlight page will probably say “This beta has already reached the tester limit”.
