Lollapalooza 2023: Ludmilla takes the stage with Skrillex and sings ‘Everybody Crazy’
Skrillex called out Ludmila to avoid the anti-climactic finale of Lollapalooza 2023 this Sunday (26). The show was a tough one, with the commendable task of the American DJ filling in for Drake, who canceled at the last minute. A large portion of the audience left during the show, but having Lude sing new songs at the end was a treat for the resisters.
The show started with an angry chorus and a remix of “Carinhoso”. Fans chanted “Hey, Drake, vai take no c*” right before the DJ entered trying to please Brazil with Pixinguinha’s version and João de Barro with Marisa Monti’s voice.
The Canadian rapper canceled at the last minute, and the American DJ got his hot potato.
Of course, he wouldn’t top the festival under normal circumstances. Not many of the public know his work well. Despite his efforts and those of a portion of the resistant audience, the show began to wind down and become anticlimactic, even more so when it started raining in the middle of the set.
Funk no Lolla: Skrillex plays “Irrecusable Proposal” by MC Brisola
Other highlights of Brazil were the funk remixes “Proposta irrecusável”, by MC Brisola, and “Deixa de onda” by Ludmilla – something popular in Skrillex’s career, even outside Brazil, since he had known and enjoyed funk for so long time.
But when Ludmila walked in, at the end, and sang the songs “I’m Bad” and “Everybody’s Crazy,” from her recently released album, “Fella,” the crowd really reacted. It was five minutes hot, probably colder than her entire Saturday afternoon show.
The beginning was “Leave Me Like This”, “Ratata” (that too with a short stretch of Brazilian funk vocals) and other tracks from their latest album, “Quest for Fire” (2023).
He also played an excerpt from Rosalía’s “Linda”, which he had just played on the other stage. “In da guetto” by J Balvin, he explained that the set was designed for shows he has performed in other Latin American countries. There should not be time to change too much.
The majority of Skrillex fans were clearly lacking in audiences – so much so that “Bangarang”, the key track of his career, was barely recognizable and elicited little reaction.
“Where are ü now,” the Justin Bieber production by duo Jack Ü, of Skrillex and Diplo, was the chorus’ most famous, but already in the middle of the rain, not much has changed.
The 35-year-old American musician was one of the names that helped popularize dubstep in the US, an aggressive, noise-filled electronic music style that emerged in the UK.
He also recorded a partnership with Ludmilla and MC Lan on the “Malokeira” track.
Skrillex knows the Brazilian public and has made an effort. He got the table in the movie “Jump around” next to House of Pain. The ending, with Ludd, was a revelation.
However, it was sad to end with fresh insults for Drake in the remaining audience.
