Abel Ferreira will be the next coach of the Brazilian national team. At least, that’s what Brito Casagrande, a former defensive midfielder for Vasco, Vitoria, Bahia, Santos and many other teams in Brazilian football, says. This Sunday (11), the coach has now met the Portuguese player from Palmeiras – who played together at Vitoria SC – and posted a photo of the encounter.
“Twenty years later, we played together in Vitoria. With the next coach in Brazil. Good luck, Mr. @coachabelferreira,” the former player wrote. The stories posted on social networks quickly went viral and became one of the most commented on topics on Twitter.
Abel Ferreira has a contract with Palmeiras until the end of 2024. Before the World Cup, the Portuguese was often asked about the possibility of taking charge of the national team. But overall, the coach confirmed his commitment to Verdau.
He replied, “I am already the coach of the Palmeiras national team. I have already told you what I think, I have spoken directly about this subject. What I said a month ago on a television program is what I maintain my conviction of,” he replied. After Palmeiras beat Atlético GO in June.
What weighs in on Abel Ferreira’s selection is the very victorious pass in just over two years in Brazil. With Palmeiras, the coach has been twice Libertadores champion, São Paulo champion, Recopa Sol-Americana champion, Copa do Brasil champion and, in 2022, Brazilian champion.
Despite the rumors, the CBF should only officially announce the replacement of Tite, who resigned from the technical leadership of the Brazilian national team after the elimination against Croatia, in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, in January 2023.
