The Royal Mint, the British body responsible for printing coins and banknotes, has revealed that the famous wizard Harry Potter will appear on a series of UK coins, including the 50 cent.
“The Royal Mint is launching a set of coins to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Harry Potter at the School of Witchcraft,” the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
The celebration marks the massive success of the first book by The Wizard, which tells of the adventures of the universe created by author J.K. Rowling.
The coin chain will consist of four pieces. The arts will feature the famous wizard in circle glasses, the Hogwarts Express, Professor Albus Dumbledore and the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The coins have a visual effect that simulates the “lightning bolt” effect when rotated in the light. This “magical” effect is achieved with a modern laser, which also allows the parts to be protected and certified, as the company specifies.
Released in 1997, the seven-volume series tells the adventures of young wizard Harry Potter at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and the course of his battle against Lord Voldemort, a villain in search of immortality.
Sales of the epic books have reached hundreds of millions of dollars, while the films have sold eight billion.
Pieces in the collection presented by the Royal Mint on Thursday include two stamped with a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, who died last month, and two others with an official portrait of King Charles III, according to the same statement.
