The artist has been considered a pioneer in the concept of temporary sculpture in Brazil, working with elements of nature, such as dew, mist, and sea air. His actions have been captured in pictures and short films.
Early in his career, Baltar participated in the group Visorama with artists such as Rosangela RenaultAnd the Ricardo Bispomand Eduardo Coimbra and Valesca Soaresbetween 1988 and 1994.
In an interview given to magazine concinnitasD., of the UERJ Art Institute, said the group sought to create works of art without a specific format – “art as existence. Art as an amalgamation of its own culture.”
In the 1990s, Baltar transformed his home in the Botafogo neighborhood, south of Rio de Janeiro, into a studio and space for art experiments. There, she collected materials such as water from gutters or dust from mud bricks on the walls – which she later turned into works.
Beltar was diagnosed with leukemia in 2012. She underwent a bone marrow transplant in 2015 and her acrobatic brother Claudio was the donor. Through this process, the artist developed a series of works, which became the show “Irmãos”, shown in 2016 at the Nara Roesler Gallery, in Rio.
The artist also presented the installation work “Casa de Abelha” in Twenty-fifth Pinal de Sao Pauloin 2002. In 2019, his work was the subject of a major film exhibition at the BNDES Cultural Space, in Rio, with 28 videos of his own.
