To address Mexico and United States border infrastructure priorities

Mexico’s Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard (pictured) will discuss border infrastructure with his US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken during a visit to Monterrey on Monday (12).

“We need to modernize the entire infrastructure, because the flow of growth, of exchange, is overburdening us,” Ebhardt said during an event sponsored by the American Society.

Ebrard said they will also discuss wastewater treatment plants in the area between Tijuana (Baja California) and San Diego, and railroad improvements in Nogales (Sonora) and Ciudad Juarez (Chihuahua).

The two countries plan to open the 4.3 billion pesos ($219 million) Otay Mesa II port gateway between Tijuana and San Diego by 2024. In February, Ebrard released several details, but a Construction Not yet delivered.

Mexican and US officials have met several times this year to discuss the infrastructure project. The last meeting took place in May when they agreed to focus on establishing new trade flows between Chihuahua and New Mexico.

Following President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s trip to Washington in July, the White House included $3.4 billion for 26 key border works, including ports of entry, in its bilateral infrastructure plan.

The investment adds to the $1.5 billion Mexico is spending on similar projects over the next two years, according to a statement.
