Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak will be crowned as the next leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom this Monday (5).
The pair have spent the past six weeks struggling to convince Conservative members they have what it takes to run the party and the country after Boris Johnson resigned.
But the nation is just a few hours away from finding out which of the two will make it to the 10th spot.
The results of the postal vote with all party members are due to be announced on Monday 5 September at 8:30am Brasilia time.
Ahead of the announcement, Truss – who is favored to defeat rival Sunak in most contests – promised to release a plan to tackle the energy crisis within a week if he becomes prime minister.
Johnson will officially remain in office until his replacement is formally sworn in on Tuesday.
For the first time in her reign, the Queen invites Johnson to her Scottish home of Balmoral in Aberdeenshire.
There, Johnson will formally tender his resignation.
That will be followed by an audience with the new Conservative leader, where he or she will be invited to form a government.
At the weekend, the new prime minister is expected to give a speech outside Downing Street, name his cabinet and other ministerial advisers, and take part in his first prime minister’s questions session against Labor leader Sir Keir Starmer.
