Canada reports new case of blood clots after vaccination with AstraZeneca – AFP / Archives

Canada announced Saturday (17) that it had identified a second case within a week of blood clots after inoculation with the AstraZeneca vaccine, although it continues to recommend its use.

The case was observed in a person residing in the province of Alberta (West), who received a copy of the vaccination developed by the Serum Institute in India, Coffeeshield, health officials reported on Twitter.

“The person has received treatment and is recovering,” they added.

Last Tuesday, the first case of a Quebec citizen who was also vaccinated with the same vaccine was announced.

Health officials said that the formation of blood clots as a result of the AstraZeneca vaccine “is still very rare”, and Canada continues to consider that “the benefits of vaccines (…) outweigh the potential risks.”

In late March, the National Immunization Advisory Committee recommended that provinces suspend the use of AstraZeneca immunosuppressants for children under 55 to assess risk.

Canada is in the middle of the third wave of infections.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, the country has accumulated more than 1.1 million infections and nearly 23,500 deaths.
