Russia accuses the US of involvement in Latin American conflicts

TeleSur – Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, speaking at the opening of the 10th Moscow Conference on International Security, denounced efforts by the United States (US) to involve the Latin American region in Washington-created conflicts with Russia and China.

According to the Defense Minister, in general, the United States tries to reduce the contacts of countries in the region with any power pole that is not controlled by Washington.

“The aim of this policy is to bring the region into conflict with Russia and China, destroy traditional relations and prevent new forms of cooperation in the military and military-technical fields”,

According to Shoigu, “anti-Russian information campaigns are being launched in Latin America, the truth about the reasons and course of Russian intervention in Ukraine is being hidden.”

“Analogies are drawn with Britain’s actions during the Falkland Islands conflict,” he said.

“What’s happening today with the coverage of Russian special forces operations in the Western media happened when the media expressed only one point of view – London’s point of view,” he said.

The head of Russia’s defense ministry also asked: “Does this policy serve the fundamental interests of countries in the region? The answer is clear: no.

On the other hand, he warned of the “severe challenges” Latin America faces in the security sector due to the US-promoted Monroe Doctrine, and criticized Washington for hindering international cooperation.

Amid US aggressive policies against some countries in the region, Russia has been increasing its ties with Latin American countries in various fields, including technology, economy and military.
