The series “Stranger Things” broke Nielsen’s record for the US audience meter Most watched streaming show on TV in a single week In America. Between May 30 and June 5, the Netflix show was watched 7.2 billion minutes. This is when the platform made the first seven episodes of the fourth season available. The last two hit Netflix on Friday (the 1st) and look set to increase this number further.
Released in 2016 and produced by two of the Duffer brothers, “Stranger Things” revolves around a group of teenagers in the 1980s who face a conflict between the real world and a dimension called “Upside Down.” Equally abode of hideous monsters and creatures. The May 23-29 preview window also marked the debut of the series on the Disney+ platform. “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, belonging to the Star Wars universe, reached third place with 1 billion minutes watched over three days, according to Nielsen. It was the biggest opening weekend since the launch of Disney+.
Another hit from “Stranger Things” was British singer, songwriter and producer Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill,” which hit the charts 40 years after its release. The theme for the current season was taken from a 1985 song Bush reached the top 10 on the Billboard charts in the US for the first time in his career and reached the top of the most streamed songs worldwide on the streaming platform Spotify.
