The meeting of the 25 unaffiliated clubs of Libra (Liga do Futebol Brasileiro) on Wednesday was a major result of the formalization of the bloc, which should sign legally in the coming days. The document is completed during the selection of the legal form: club association or league. No names or heads yet. Not to mention the hurry.
The perception is that creating a league of 40 associations in Series A and B for the Brazilian Championship will still need time. It is time to intensify the study of projections and deepen the discussion internally. Then it seeks again to reopen the dialogue with Libra.
The 25 clubs intend to create a strong and central base to facilitate negotiation with the other bloc, which, for the time being, does not want to sit at the table discussing the criteria it has already laid out in its platform. The goal is to make negotiations more flexible and to have the Libra group come together to form a league capable of organizing the Brazilian Championship.

The head of Fluminense, Mario Bettencourt, who acted as one of the leaders of the group, explained the idea of formalizing the block:
– An attempt to form a Brazilian football league with the participation of all. To be very clear, it does not conflict with the other. What we expect is for our union to be formalized to continue defending our ideas. The goal in the end is to bring everyone together. I hope this happens. If you don’t form a league with all the clubs, you will end up with one or two groups selling commercial rights. But this is for the future. We have contracts for another two years. It is important to be clear that there is no rush or rush.
As the group finds resistance to opening negotiations with members of Libra, the next steps are to deepen the internal debate and then take a new step in an effort to reach an understanding with the other bloc.
– We still haven’t gotten to meet, respond, so we’re looking forward to formalizing our group, discussing ideas internally and then looking for a combination – Mário Bittencourt completed.

The president of Atlético-MG, Sergio Coelho, also serves as the leader in this 25-person group. Since the beginning of the talks, the leader has on some occasions acted as a mediator between the two blocs.
– Whether it is a league or a federation.. Since these clubs are looking for a federation, let it be a league in which the distribution of income is just as in Europe. La Liga, the English Premier League… The league cannot make the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. A league organizes a tournament only if it belongs to 40 clubs. If not, said Sergio Coelho, there is no way.
The leader explained that if there is no consensus between the 25-member bloc and Libra members, the purpose of the groups is limited to joint negotiation of the rights sale. He confirmed that there are two attempts to meet. First, a meeting between companies that advise these two groups, canceled by the Libra side. Then a message ended up being ignored.
– You can have a league to sell the properties of the clubs belonging to that league. There can be as many as three or four leagues like this… On May 31, we sent a message asking Libra clubs to arrange a meeting, and give us two dates, with a place and time, for us to sit down and discuss. They didn’t even give us an answer. There will be a meeting between their advisors, Codajas, and our advisors. did not happen.

Sérgio Coelho also stated that the idea was to copy models that worked in Europe.
– The goal is for us to sit down and get one league. I hope they understand that we want to meet, but that we do it in a way that the clubs get income as in other leagues in Europe. We don’t want to reinvent the wheel. Just take what’s on the outside and apply it here.
