The Legislative Assembly of the State of Minas Gerais (ALMG) on Tuesday (12) overturned the veto of the Governor of Minas Gerais, Romeo Zema, on the amendments providing for an increase in salaries for education, health and security personnel.
To oust him, 39 dissenting votes were needed. There were 55 votes against the veto, and three (Barto (PL), Guilherme da Cunha (Novo) and Laura Serrano (Novo)) ended up in his favour.
The servers of the state of Minas Gerais packed the plenary session and asked the deputies to override the veto. Romeo Zima was heavily criticized by the workers.
Romeo Zima banned servers’ pay raise
At the beginning of the month, the governor of Minas Gerais approved the bill that would adjust the salaries of all civil servants by 10.06%. But it vetoed parliamentary amendments that increase salaries for health, education and public security workers.
Of course, Zima’s position caused a reaction in the specified categories, which began to put pressure on the deputies to cancel the veto of the CEO of the state of Minas Gerais.
“Considering that the state has about 634,000 payments, among active, inactive and retired civil servants, the readjustment of 10.06% for all categories has a financial impact of more than R$ 330 million per month, equivalent to more than R$ 4.5 billion annually.” , announced the government of Minas.
