The American Film Academy has banned Will Smith from attending the Oscars for 10 years. On Friday (8) noon, the members discuss possible penalties against the actor for hitting Chris Rock during this year’s party.
No further details were released. Smith resigned from the academy last week.
Slap during the Oscars
Will Smith resigned from the Academy five days after assaulting Rock during the Academy Awards.
The 53-year-old actor later declared that his actions, which overshadowed Hollywood’s biggest party, were “impressive, painful and unforgivable.”

Half an hour after the attack, Smith won an Oscar for Best Actor for his role in “King Richard: Raising Champions,” which tells the story of the Venus sisters and the Serena Williams family’s path to tennis stars.
The fifth black man to win the highest award for an actor could have been expelled from the Academy, but upon resignation, that possibility was ruled out.
Traditionally, Best Actor winning an Academy Award the following year is invited to present this category at the Academy Awards. “I hope the Academy will invite me again,” Smith said upon receiving his figurine.
Chris Rock’s brother, Kenny Rock, told the Los Angeles Times that Smith “discredited” the comedian in front of the millions of viewers who watched the show.
