Big winter storm hits eastern America

Millions of Americans on Sunday were hit by a massive storm that hit eastern America with snow and ice, causing power outages, road disruptions and air suspensions.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned that “a major winter storm will hit the eastern United States between Sunday and Monday, with up to 30 centimeters of snow expected in the area extending from Tennessee to Georgia and southeast of Vermont.” And New York State in the Northeast.

Already traffic has been severely affected. Thousands of flights were canceled and part of the Interstate I95 in North Carolina was closed.

According to FlightAware, about 2,900 domestic and international flights were canceled and 2,400 postponed until noon on Sunday.

“The Arctic winds, which are already present in Central and Eastern America, will combine with this dynamic system to form ice sheets more than 30 centimeters thick,” the NWS explained.

Florida, in the southeast, was affected by several hurricanes and snowstorms, with generally good weather, causing property damage and coastal flooding Sunday, the weather channel said.

From the states of North and South Carolina, to the Appalachians, ice and wind speeds complicate the situation.

According to American newspapers, the winter alert worries more than 80 million people.

Georgia, one of the worst-hit states, has declared a state of emergency since Friday with its governor, Brian Kemp. Similar to Virginia and North Carolina.
