On Thursday (11) former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva embarked on a four-nation tour of Europe.
With the 2022 elections expected, the Labor Party will visit Germany, Belgium, France and Spain and meet with many political leaders.
The meeting will bring together leaders from Europe and Latin America, including former Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and the mayors of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, and Bogota, Claudia Lopez Hernandez.
The former president will also hold a press conference alongside Spain’s Europarlamento S&D leader Iratxe García. “We progressives in Europe and Latin America are united by our commitment to solidarity, equality, human rights and democracy,” Garcia said.
The socialist added, “We strongly condemn the right’s politicization of human rights. Systematic attempts to undermine democratic institutions, violate the separation of powers and fuel hatred will meet our strongest resistance.”
On Tuesday (16) Lula will deliver a lecture at the Institute of Political Studies in Paris (Science Po) on “Brazil’s place in the world of tomorrow”. On Wednesday (17), the former president will receive the 2021 Political Courage Award, awarded by Politik International “for his desire to promote equality.” .
