A man trapped inside the walls of a theater in Syracuse, New York, has been rescued.
At 7:30 a.m. local time (8:30 a.m. Brasilia time) firefighters were called and heard someone banging on the wall begging for help.
He is believed to have been trapped inside the wall for two days.
According to local media, rescue workers pierced the walls of the theater and found him naked. He is being treated at a local hospital.
In a statement on Facebook, the Syracuse fire department said it was unclear how he approached the interior of the wall.
In a statement to local media Syracuse.com, Landmark Theater director Mike Indaclita said the man had wandered into the building earlier in the week.
Officers who saw him thought he was gone, Indaglita said.
“I don’t know if he came to warm up or go to the bathroom. I don’t know,” he added.
John Kane, vice president of the Syracuse Fire Department, told the media that the man may have been hiding on the roof and that the men of the theater had fallen into the wall of the bathroom and were trapped.
Police said the person appeared to be mentally ill and would not be charged or identified.
