An Israeli minister using a wheelchair unable to attend COP26 because there was not enough access | Globalism

Minister of Energy IsraelKaren Al-Harrar uses a wheelchair and was unable to participate in the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, COP26, on Monday (1) because there was no transportation with a wheelchair.

She said in an interview with an Israeli TV channel that she was unable to reach the conference site because she would have to walk there or ride in a truck that was not suitable for a wheelchair.

She even tried to get into the complex where the event is taking place with her own car, but the organization did not allow this and, at the same time, did not provide an air-conditioned truck.

“I came to COP26 to meet with my peers around the world and progress in the fight against the climate crisis, and it is sad that in 2021 the United Nations, which promotes accessibility for people with disabilities, does not worry about accessibility at its events,” he told her on a social network. .

The Israeli foreign minister said it was “impossible to worry about the future, the climate, and peoples if we don’t take care of people, accessibility, and disabilities first.”

The UK ambassador to Israel, Neil Wigan, apologized: “I was upset to learn that Karen Al-Harr was unable to attend the COP26 meetings, and I apologize to the Minister.”
